We know the struggle

Practical ideas for autistic families

A growing directory of things we tried, changed, built and learned while raising our autistic child and exchanging experiences with other autistic families

Start with the point of friction.

Compare ideas, understand the limits and choose a small change you can observe.

01

Find the friction

Look for the moment a routine, place, object or demand becomes harder to manage.

02

Try one change

Use a small, reversible adaptation. Keep the context clear so you know what you tested.

03

Protect caregiver capacity

Plans need to fit the time, money and energy available to the people carrying them out.

What does Sisuist mean?

Sisu names the determination to keep moving when the next step is hard.

Our family uses that determination to change the environment and build what is missing. That work includes protecting the energy needed to try again.

Why Sisuist exists

“We are trying to build a family life that respects our child and still includes us.”
